Beyond the thumping
By: Jeremy |Ok, instead of a recap/lowlight post, let’s just say that la lepra laid an egg in the second half of a game tied at one at the break. We couldn’t keep up pace with Estudiantes forwards. And we paid the price. And I still don’t understand Vazquez in place of Da Silva [...]
Ouch!
By: Jeremy |Well, I told you Da Silva wouldn’t start. And the offense scored twice. Good things. Only half of that tally against River and we would’ve had all three points. I just love it when a plan comes together. On the other hand I’m just going to pretend that the five [...]
Friday’s team
By: Jeremy |We know Donnet is back in after his suspension. He’ll be taking Bernardello place in the center, since he will be serving a one game suspension. Other than that, Caruso is saying that he won’t make changes just for the sake of making changes.
Personally, I would be more than mildly surprised to see [...]
Parity?
By: Jeremy |Not necessarily a Newell’s only post, but a comment left on another post got me thinking. The league is as wide open as it has ever been. Until the single season format was switched to the Metropolitan and National tournaments back in 1967, there had only been five winners of the league, what [...]
Media frustrations
By: Jeremy |I’m just a tad bit tired of the treatment the other 15 teams are getting from the media. River draws away at Newell’s and River did something wrong. No mention of Newell’s doing something right. I could list mountains of examples. If you aren’t Boca, River, Independiente, San Lorenzo (who lost again) [...]
Newell’s-River - first thoughts.
By: Jeremy |Well that stunk. 0-0. After watching the game, I really feel that Newell’s dropped two points. With the way River played, they are probably thinking they picked up a point. Nice save by Carrizo on Schiavi’s header that was probably the difference in a draw and a NOB victory. (I [...]
Newell’s - River preview
By: Jeremy |This is a little taste of what is waiting River this Sunday at the Coloso.
It looks like Newell’s will be making two changes from the line-up that defeated San Lorenzo in last week’s opener. Diego Scotti gets his first start in place of Matias Donnet (who is serving a one match suspension for the [...]
This mornings workout
By: Jeremy |In case you were wondering, the team spent some time playing futbol-tenis on three different fields (complete with winners and losers) in three man teams, and then went on to small space work with mini-goals. According to the team site, the weather was good and optimism was high. Apparently a good time was [...]
A little NOB history
By: Jeremy |Ok, now that I have a little time, I thought I would throw out a few facts about the team for those of you unfamiliar with Newell’s. In the interests of proper journalism, I gathered this information from several sources, including the official NOB homepage.

Just read that TyC, Canal 7 and the AFA have reached an agreement for Canal 7 to broadcast the Friday night game each week. Nothing earth-shattering, except that I can actually watch Canal 7 much easier that TyC. Also, the fixtures for weeks 3 and 4 have been announced and Newell’s is set [...]
