Three games, no losses, three points
By: Jeremy |That sums up the last three games. Amazingly they are only 6 points off the pace. Of course Rosario Central lost two out of three got the same points during that stretch as we did.
I can’t wait for the clasico.
Happy Birthday, Fernando.
By: Jeremy |That’s right (well at least it will be tomorrow - Tuesday) 38 years ago Fernando Gamboa was born in Marcos Jaurez. He joined Newell’s lower divisions and made his senior team debut in 1988. He was part of the title winning squads of 1990-1991 and the Clasura 92, plus a Copa Libertadores runner [...]
The Barra Has Nothing to do With Lopez
By: Jeremy |The barra has nothing to do with the running of Newell’s. Zilch. Zero. Nada. So says leaders of the barra and president Eduardo Lopez. And who could dispute these men of honor. I mean, nothing in their history would cause people to doubt them, right? Oh yeah, except the fact [...]
Newell’s - Estudiantes preview
By: Jeremy |This round sees Estudiantes arrive in el Coloso to take on la Lepra. Fresh off a Copa Sudamericana win, el Pincha seems to be calling it quits on their season in the Primera and are resting their star Juan Sebastián Verón and maybe a couple of others, saving them for their next Copa Sudamericana [...]
New Stadium?
By: Jeremy |In a press conference called by none other than the #1 leper, Eduardo Lopez, he admitted that in place of expanding the current stadium (an idea he said was stopped by the opposition) Newell’s is looking at an 18 hectare property inside the city to build a 60,000 seat stadium and let the current complex [...]
Exorcism in Palos Verdes?
By: Jeremy |It appears that a priest of some sort was on the grounds of Rosario Central to perform some sort of ‘driving ou’t of the bad spirits that have overcome Central’s season. Several members of the board of directors were also on hand, but all denied having anything to do with the priest. Details [...]
BYE BYE, LOPEZ?
By: Jeremy |Thanks you Jesus. According to Ole and Rosario/12, the courts in Rosario have apparently decided that Lopez cannot block the 20,000 or so socios from voting in the election in December due to not having paid their monthly quotas. Since Newell’s as an institution stopped collecting them in 2004, it has been hard [...]
Not What We Expected
By: Jeremy |Well, the draw away to Godoy Cruz could have been worse, barely. Newell’s could have taken away no points. So now we sit third on 18 points, two behind Tigre at 20 and now seven behind San Lorenzo. A draw isn’t the end of the world, but we need to put together [...]
Godoy-Old Boys previa 2
By: Jeremy |I forgot that Lautaro Formica, dumped by Caruso Lombardi, will also be in the starting lineup for el Tomba. He’s still a little sore about it and maybe will be looking to prove it a mistake.
Gabriel Favale will be the ref and Newell’s has four draws and five losses in the last nine games [...]
