OK, when I am not scouring the internet for football related info or delving into the seedy world of pirated game feeds I can be found running my construction company or chasing after my son.
Why Newell’s you might ask? Good question, but no good answer. I have never been south of Costa Rica and most of the games I get to watch are on the computer. I was just tired of the Boca/River/et al focus in Argentina and started checking out other teams about the time I saw Newell’s play a game several years ago. I was hooked.
Being a fan of the global game, I follow several teams, all to a lesser extent than Newell’s and some of them not a whole lot at all, but it is fun to have a team to root for in other leagues.
In Uruguay, it is Danubio because when I lived in a small village in the middle of nowhere in Honduras the local team was named Danubio.
In Mexico, it is Toluca because in Honduras a friend of mine was from Toluca and that got me on the band wagon.
In Europe, Arsenal (I saw a movie about an Arsenal fan), Milan (always need a team in to pull for in the CL - they usually go far), Schalke 04 (I need more frustration in my life), Atletico Madrid (who knows why), Hajduk Split (my great grandparents are Croatian from the Split area), and lately I’m starting to dig Fenerbache (I met a guy on a jobsite who is from Turkey).
Notice the list is lacking a US team. I’m trying, but so far no team jumps out.
