Luis Escalada is leproso
By: Jeremy |Out of basically nowhere Newell’s signs another player, ex Boca, Emelec, LDU Quito, Botafogo, and Gimnasia (J) striker Luis Escalada. At Emelec in 06 he scored 29 goals in 40 games. He followed that up with 16 goals in 38 games at Liga de Quito in 07. Below is a (lenghty-ish) video [...]

More post game thoughts
By: Jeremy |The Good:
Newell’s won, on a pitch they don’t get results on very often. Without Cristian Fabianni and Walter Fretes. With a new coach with three days of practice and a vast total of ZERO days previous experience in the Primera A or B.
Full Time: La Lepra by a goal!
By: Jeremy |Great way to start out the season, especially after all the turmoil of the off season. A win for Gamboa his first time out as manager of Newell’s. Re’s goal proved to be the decider (and only goal). His four goals have come in four games and Newell’s won each one with [...]
Gimnasia 0 - Newell’s 1 at the break
By: Jeremy |German Re is on a hot streak! After scoring the third goal of his career last season, he picked up his fourth tonight. That’s two goals in less than two seasons. The team looked disoriented in attack and Gimnasia spent a good bit of time in front of la lepra’s goal, but [...]
Neutered!
By: Jeremy |The papers from Paraguay and Romania didn’t show up in time. Damn the bad luck. So that means that Pablo Perez will take Fretes place and Armani or Ferreyra will fill in for Fabianni. Man does this suck. Ferreyra didn’t impress last season and Armani is from Primera B. I [...]
Gimnasia Preview, sort of
By: Jeremy |Ok, game day and the start of the Aperatura 08 has arrived. Looks like la lepra will be in a 4-3-1-2 to start the game.
German Caffa; Pablo Aguilar, Juan Insaurralde, Rolando Schiavi, German Ré; Machín, Walter Fretes (or Pablo Pérez), Hernan Bernardello, Lionel Vangioni; Alejandro Da Silva, Cristian Fabbiani (or Juan Ferreyra). (The [...]
The New Staff
By: Jeremy |The first game of the season is upon us and I haven’t really mentioned the new staff. So here we go.
Fernando Andres Gamboa - manager
Ricardo Gabriel Lunari - assistant manager
Antonio Farano - trainer
Cesar Jaime - goal keepers coach
Gamboa and Lunari are ex-Newell’s and close to living legends, so the transition with the fans should [...]
Last thoughts on Caruso Lombardi
By: Jeremy |I know it is time to move on. Gamboa seems to be earning the respect of the players and appears to be quite the motivator. More on him in another post. I thought I would take one last look back at Caruso’s time with la lepra.
