ex-NOB Ortega to Rivadavia?!?
By: Jeremy |Well, I know he is a River player, but he had some good times in Roario back when he won the Aperatura ‘04 with la lepra, so I thought I would throw this out there. I saw a story on TyC that stated he was heading to Independiente Rivadavia and not Al Ain Sports as had been originally reported. Then I checked Rivadavia’s web page and they are proclaiming that he has agreed terms verbally and they only need to work it out with River.

Friday’s Starting Eleven?
By: Jeremy |Looks like Gamboa tipped his hand to the starting XI for Friday’s season opener against Gimnasia(LP):
German Caffa*; Pablo Aguilar, Rolando Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde*(in for injured Spolli), German Re; Gaston Machin*, Hernan Bernardello, Walter Fretes*, Leonel Vangioni; Cristian Fabbiani* and Alejandro da Silva.

He was forced out
By: Jeremy |In a press conference today that took place in the Holiday Inn - Rosario, Caruso revealed that the rat bastard Lopez asked him to step down. That sorry piece of bat guano. Like him or not, Caruso saved Newell’s tail last season. Now we get an ex-player in Gamboa with limited managerial experience to take over a team a week from the beginning of the season. A team in flux at that. Elecciones ya!
Thanks for the memories, Ricky
By: Jeremy |What the crap? Apparently, Hernan Bernardello was sold to a group of investors (don’t get me started on that garbage, that’s a whole ‘nother post) who intend to put him with another club. That was the last straw for Caruso, who wasn’t even informed of the sale until Bernardello was pulled out of practice and told that his rights were now owned by a group of investors. Caruso was under the impression that there would only be one sale.

Salcedo sold to River, finally
By: Jeremy |Lopez held out and got $6 million or so for Salcedo. River bought 80% of his pass, and of course his services. $3 million to be paid upfront and the rest on a 36 month payment plan. While I’m glad this saga is finally over, I find it hard to believe that Los Millonarios need a payment plan. They are supposed to be the richest club in Argentina, but I guess it’s the same as a Newell’s - a bad president mismanaging the club.

Salcedo sold?
By: Jeremy |After practice this morning, captain Rolando Schiavi left the training grounds and made a bee-line for the offices of president Eduardo Lopez. Today was d-day, or payday if you will. It seems as though our dear little president has been a bit remiss when it comes to paying salaries of the bigger players for roughly FIVE MONTHS. He promised Schiavi last week that this would be the week to get caught up.

Barrientos deal done
By: Jeremy |According to some of the press, Hugo Barrientos is Newell’s 413th new midfield signing of the season. The transfer fee is somewhere around $625,000, payable in two installments to Huracan, half-ish now and the rest in ‘09
Fabbiani to sign, Barrientos tries to
By: Jeremy |Fabbiani says that he will be in Rosario Saturday to sign his contract. Or maybe next Saturday - I’m a bit unclear on that part.
Barrientos went to Rosario to sign his contract with la lepra, but there still is some negotiating to be done on how Huracan will be paid for the transfer, so no signature yet.
Some Fabbiani footage for you
By: Jeremy |While I’m still a bit giddy thinking about the chance of him playing for Newell’s, I thought I’d throw out a couple of videos. The first one is a compilation from his time with Kluj.
Cristian Fabbiani to Newell’s?
By: Jeremy |In an interview with LaCapital, Fabbiani said unequivocably that he wanted to return to Argentina and Rosario is the place to be, since his model girlfriend (as in girlfriend who is a model, not as in exemplary girlfriend-although she might be) Amalia Granata (a huge NOB fan) and 3 month old daughter Uma live there. He wants Newell’s, Newell’s wants him. Sounds so simple, right?
