Are you kidding me?
By: Jeremy | August 23rd, 2008I still can’t believe they lost against a team that allowed 8, count them 8, goals in the first two games. I wasn’t expecting a repeat of that but damn, zero goals? Really? Da Silva and Ferreyra suck, hard. It was like watching Newell’s a man down every time they went on the offense with Da Silva sucking it up all over the place. Hey Gamboa, here’s an idea for next week, send Da Silva back to Paraguay. Ferreyra at least played hard and made a couple of opportunities, but he doesn’t know how to finish. Get them out. I don’t care if Armani is from the B, he couldn’t do any worse and will probably d0 better. Put in Steinert. Two rookies could easily outshine those two. And Eduardo Lopez better get his corrupt ass on the first plane to Romania and do whatever he has to do to get the Romanian’s to send Fabbiani’s transfer.
Now let’s talk about Fernando Gamboa. This was possibly the easiest three points on the schedule. Period. And they left ALL 3 of them in Jujuy. I’ll liken this to say college football here in the US. If you see a team come out and play flat, make stupid mistakes - offsides, holding, movement on the line, delay of game - and players are out of position and unfocused, that is the coaches fault. Nobody elses. No one on the team played well. Not Schiavi, not Re, not anyone. I’m willing to give Gamboa the benefit of the doubt here, but you didn’t see a game this collectively piss poorly played under Caruso.
Gamboa is apparently taking a friendly, nurturing tact with the team and some of that showed up in the way they played. Undisciplined. Caruso didn’t win every game, but they were always disciplined as a team. Discipline in practice is discipline in the game. And the first team played that way in practice this week. They lost both games they played against the reserves and didn’t look good at all.
They go to Colon next week. Gamboa has a lot of work to do, as does Lopez. Uncle Edward must get the transfers for Fretes, Cristaldo, and Fabbiani. Newell’s has nothing on attack with Da Ferreyra. Conceding one goal, which by the way, wasn’t the fault of Caffa, isn’t bad, especially considering the crappy way the whole defense played. Scoring exactly 0 goals against a team that stacks up to pad a lot of opposing teams goals for totals is abyssmal.

I’ll admit; it’s Saturday night, but I was at home watching the match. Newell’s will be much different when Fabbiani returns. You know that, but you also know that you can’t wait that long. You guys are tough and will finish the campaign in a much better position…keep your head up.
