Catching Up A Little Bit More

By: Jeremy | April 14th, 2009

First of all, el Pimpi and his brothers are finally in jail for the little shoot out at el Colosso. It looks like judge Alejandro Rodenas, Lopez’ guardian angel, has been removed from the case. The bad news is that the club owes around 75 million pesos to various debtors. Yikes. And it gets worse.

Television rights were ceded to Boca until 2012 by Eduardo Lopez before he left office due to him never having paid Boca for a couple of players. Income from stadium publicity were sold right before he left office as well. Funny that money didn’t seem to make it into the coffers.

The biggest creditor is the AFA at around 22 million pesos. Crazy thing is that in September they confirmed the debt to be 9 million pesos or so. How did it nearly triple in a couple of months?

The money collected from the turnstile against Argentinos was apparently impounded by the AFIP (think IRS, kind of) because the old Newell’s lawyer under Lopez didn’t get his final payment, or so he says. I’m not sure if Newell’s got to keep the money after all, but I’m trying to find out.

A lot of the debt appears to be false, and Newell’s will look over everything with a fine tooth comb. One dude showed up, an ex-player for Central, claiming Newell’s owed him 2 million pesos. The thing is, upon some investigation, he never made more than 24 thousand pesos a year. So where did he get that kind of jack to loan Newell’s?

La Lepra finally filed a criminal complaint against Lopez, but I doubt they will ever get any money back, and he probably won’t see any jail time. Rodenas and the few judges remaining that he has favor with will see to that. I think the best we can hope for right now is that a lot of the debt is proven invalid. I’m not sure about Argentine law, but it seems to me that if both parties (Lopez and some crony) enter into an agreement with the purpose of defrauding an institution (Newell’s) then that debt is invalid. Plus people are claiming to have bought a total of 175% of one player, so a lot of this really should come out as fraudulent debt.

I’m tired of writing about that crackhead, so I will move on to something else later.
