Eduardo Lopez watches practice

By: Jeremy | April 16th, 2008

Not a big deal for any other club to have the club’s president in the stands watching practice. But this is Newell’s. Lopez, according to most accounts, has never been to a practice in the 13 years he’s been in charge. Even the players noticed it. Caruso joked with Villar that he didn’t know if he should be happy or scared.

Lopez has managed to put off elections for a lot of years now, although it does appear that they will finally happen, since the judges that were his buddies and protector in the legal wrangling have either died or moved on. Still the man is a divisive figure and the rumors (some proved) of financial irregularity just keep growing.

I just hope that he isn’t contemplating Caruso’s future. As far as I am concerned he should have a lifetime contract with a ginormous buyout clause. The guy knows how to win, period. But he basically has no tact. He speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to step on some toes - players, training staff, other coaches, higher ups. If he had Ischia’s team, Boca would be six points clear of River and not behind.

Eduardo Lopez with his son and a few others checking out the practice. Weird, huh?

I don’t like E.Lopez at all and I think most Leprosos feel the same. I wish that Caruso keep doing his job normally, Newell’s Old Boys need him and he show that he is the right DT for the team right now.

Go Newell’s , vamos la lepra!!!

I would have to agree with you on that Jose. A random sampling of fan sites backs that up. They are almost unanimous in a dislike of Lopez and desire for elections. Nice web site, by the way. I checked it out the other day. Funny, I was looking at your links and I had almost all of them bookmarked already.
