First Friendly, Colon 0 – Newell’s 1
By: Jeremy | January 18th, 2009More like a scrimmage, really, it only lasted 50 minutes this morning. I didn’t see it and I can’t find any clips. I doubt it had any kind of broadcast.
Sebastián Peratta; Iván Pillud, Rolando Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde, Ernesto Cristaldo; Gastón Machín, Hernán Bernardello, Leonel Vangioni; Leandro Torres; Damián Steinert and Leandro Armani.
Apparently Damian Stienert looked good, and caused some moments of discomfort for the Colon defense. The only goal was an own-goal off a Steinert run and shot that was deflected by Pablo Aguilar, the one who plays for Colon, not Newell’s.
Other than that, I hear it wasn’t an especially fluid game, but Newell’s did tend to have the upper hand through much of the match.
It’s good to see Steinert back, and I hope he gets the chance to show what he is made of this year. I think the kid has some real talent. I’m hoping that he and Armani can team up to be a decent strike partnership, although Torres will probably be in the mix, and they are looking at bringing in another striker, so who knows if those two will get much time on the pitch.
