Friday’s Starting Eleven?
By: Jeremy | August 6th, 2008Looks like Gamboa tipped his hand to the starting XI for Friday’s season opener against Gimnasia(LP):
German Caffa*; Pablo Aguilar, Rolando Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde*(in for injured Spolli), German Re; Gaston Machin*, Hernan Bernardello, Walter Fretes*, Leonel Vangioni; Cristian Fabbiani* and Alejandro da Silva.
The one possible kink to the lineup (which hasn’t been officially announced) is that the five new players (with the * by their names) haven’t had their passes cleared by the AFA yet. So if for some crazy reason that didn’t happen by 8 pm on Friday, they couldn’t play. The only real danger, I think, is Fabbiani since it is the Romanian Football Federation that has to certify his transfer.
Looks like it will be the standard 4-4-2 to confront el Lobo and not the 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 that Gamboa favors. The back line will miss Spolli, that’s for sure, but I’m pretty sure they will hold their own.
