Happy Birthday, Fernando.

By: Jeremy | October 27th, 2008

That’s right (well at least it will be tomorrow – Tuesday) 38 years ago Fernando Gamboa was born in Marcos Jaurez. He joined Newell’s lower divisions and made his senior team debut in 1988. He was part of the title winning squads of 1990-1991 and the Clasura 92, plus a Copa Libertadores runner up. Then he spent time at River and Boca before heading to Spain, then back to Newell’s in ‘99 and’00 and then several more teams before he retired (I believe at Argentinos).

Now he’s our coach and his first season in charge of anything is going quite smashingly well.

I had the luck to see him play in his best moments sharing the defence with other extraordinary player Mauricio Pochettino. What a team!!!

If we can get rid of Uncle Edward maybe those kinds of teams will come back. Think of who we could afford if all the money actually stayed at the club.
