Judge intevenes, socios can vote
By: Jeremy | October 30th, 2008Judge Iván Kvasina has decided that the club cannot bar anyone from voting who did not pay their monthly dues throught August ‘08. In order to participate in the December elections, the have to have paid the months of Sept, Oct, and Nov of this year.
Lopez is going to appeal the decision, of course. The judge based his decision on several factors, one being that it is widely known that Newell’s supporters don’t have to pay the quota. In fact from 2004-2007 they were allowed into the general assembly and other official events without the demand of being paid up.
Also noted was the fact that nowhere in Newell’s balance sheets can an entry for payments from socios be found.
I’m cautiously optimistic, but Lopez is still a powerful man, so the appeal could go against the socios. While I am thinking that his protection by the courts is coming to an end, I could be totally off base. I am pretty sure that governor Binner won’t interfere either way (he said so), so it will be up to the courts.
