Lope$’ strategy
By: Jeremy | December 3rd, 2008It’s looking more and more like Lope$ will fight a delaying battle. By having the junta disallow three hundred or so signatures because they weren’t paid up to the minute since 2004, and not just the last three months like the judge said, Lope$ is sending the message that he is desperate and willing to go to court rather than face an election he knows he can’t win.
My guess is that he will postpone the elections, and let the opposition take him to court. It’s just a guess, but what other option does he have? By no means would I call him a man of integrity, so just letting the socios vote and walking away without trying to intimidate, coerce, force, or cheat his way to a victory isn’t his style.
He’ll probably try and delay the elections as long as he can, with the real intention of never having them. This will force MoLe to court, where they will have to convince a judge to do something about Lope$. Something more than just issue another statement or ruling. They would have to actually run the election. In the meantime, His Ratness will throw out a string of appeals, trying to overturn the decision to let any socio who paid the last three months vote.
Over time, the thought probably goes, the opposition will lose steam and maybe give up. He’ll try and thwart them at every turn, legal or not. He will continue ignoring judges orders until police show up to arrest him.
It could take years to play out in court because justice moves slowly. He will beg for extension after extension, and he could possibly find a judge that is sympathetic to his cause. Even if he ultimately loses, it could still buy him a few more years at the helm and let him continue sucking the blood out of Newell’s.
I only hope the courts step in and force an election on the 14th so that Newell’s can get on with life and start rebuilding the disaster that he will leave behind.

Amen, brother. As much as I don’t like violence from the stands, in the streets, or on the pitch, I would shed no tears if something of that nature should occur to the financial vampire known as Eduardo Lopez.
