Lopez cleans house

By: Jeremy | June 14th, 2008

Wow. As if the big blowup between Cabrera, Llama (and others) in yesterday wasn’t enough, today Lopez paid his second visit to practice this season. You could probably count on your hand the number of times he has visited practice in his 14 years of presidency.

His purpose? To send 14 players packing until July 7th, the first day of preseason. The 14? Nicolás Cabrera, Cristian Llama, Claudio Husaín, Martín Seri, Augusto Mainguyague, Héctor Gaitán, Damián Steinert, Mauro Formica, Pablo Vázquez, Alexis Machuca, Diego Torres, Miguel Torren, Diego Scotti y Matías Donnet. Other than Ariel Zapata, that is probably the whole camp that wants Caruso out (especially the first four). Rolando Schiavi claims his beef is with the trainer, not coach.

I doubt all of them will be gone at the beginning of the preseason, but it’s a safe bet at least the first four will be.

El presidente.

What does this mean for Caruso? Who knows. Judging by the players dismissed - the anti-Caruso faction pretty much in its entirety, this certainly bodes well for Caruso, who just said that Lopez is giving indications that he will be back.

Then again, this is Eduardo Lopez we are talking about, so who knows? Maybe he just doesn’t want another embarrassing fight in practice.
