New Stadium?
By: Jeremy | October 24th, 2008In a press conference called by none other than the #1 leper, Eduardo Lopez, he admitted that in place of expanding the current stadium (an idea he said was stopped by the opposition) Newell’s is looking at an 18 hectare property inside the city to build a 60,000 seat stadium and let the current complex in Parque Independencia go to the city.
He also said that the Electoral Board will decide if socios have to be paid to the month to participate in the election, despite what the Santa Fe judiciary said. If it is up to him, only those who are current with their monthly payments will be allowed to vote.
As far as the election, he says it will be the same as always, his ticket and no one else running against them.
If he is successful in blocking any other ticket from registering by the deadline, then it doesn’t matter how many vote, he is still in.
Actually, he said a lot more, but it makes my ears hurt to listen to him for any length of time, so go here to read the highlights (in Spanish). Seeing as how the head rat’s last press conference was in 2005 to announce Juvenal Olmos as the new coach, maybe he is feeling a bit threatened and this is his way of trying to demoralize his opponents.
Just in case you don’t know what he looks like, here he is, our very own esteemed president Eduardo Lopez, at ease and fielding questions.

I don’t believe Newell’s hinchas like this idea, I personaly don’t. I want the stadium in el parque where we built our glory. This is a Lopez trick because he feels that the oposition and discontent of lepers is growing. Think how many years is going to take to build another stadium of course with him in charge, he’s going to do everything to stay in Newell’s, I wish people don’t bite this shit.

Amen, José. New stadium? Why? And just where is the money to build it going to come from? (Unless Lopez coughs up some of the transfer money that has disappeared over the years he’s been in charge…)

And right now, I haven’t seen a game where the stands were full. There always seems to be a few thousand empty seats. So I question the need for a new stadium. It’s just a ploy to stay in office, and probably use the construction funds to fatten himself and his acquaintances.
