Newell’s – Estudiantes preview

By: Jeremy | October 25th, 2008

This round sees Estudiantes arrive in el Coloso to take on la Lepra. Fresh off a Copa Sudamericana win, el Pincha seems to be calling it quits on their season in the Primera and are resting their star Juan Sebastián Verón and maybe a couple of others, saving them for their next Copa Sudamericana tie.

In Newell’s, the only change to the squad from last week’s apathetic draw in Mendoza is Ariel Zapata for Hernan Bernardello, who was shown his fifth yellow card last week. El Turco Husain will be on the bench for the first time in about a year and a half.

The lineups should be as follows:
Newell’s – Peratta; Aguilar, Schiavi, Insaurralde, Ré; Machín, Zapta, Vangioni; L. Torres; D. Torres, Fabbiani. Director tecnico, Fernando Gamboa.

Estudiantes – Andújar; Angeleri, Alayes, Desábato, Juan M. Díaz; Moreno, Fabbianesi; Braña, M. Sánchez; G. Fernández; Calderón.

Since 1990, Newell’s is 11 – 2 – 3 at home against Estudiantes. The overall series is tied at 47 wins apiece with 38 draws.

Newell’s is looking for the full three points after last weekend’s draw. I expect them to attack from the opening of the game. Estudiantes will not quite be at full strength due to holding out a few of their regulars for their run in the Copa. We’ll see how it plays out.

My prediction – Newell’s 2 -Estudiantes 1

Estudiantes got a very good goalkeeper, we deserved the victory but was just a draw, it was a good chance to get close to san lorenzo.

Everybody saw the flag at the palatea against lopez, peolpe of MOLE and autoconvocados hold it, people is losing their fear and say no to lopez an barras and said “Newell’s belong to el parque and is not going to leave the parque”. So, beard man, get the message.
    Go la lepra !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was kind of surprised to see that banner. The barra doesn’t usually allow that kind of thing. Hopefully Rat Boy is losing his grip.

La Lepra played way better than in Mendoza (I think it must have been the wine). Definitely deserved better results. At least we are back on form.
