Newell’s News
By: Jeremy | January 5th, 2009Ok, not a lot to report on the Newell’s front. Cristian Fabbiani wants out, again. Adios, I say, but for a decent price. River Plate boss Nestor Gorosito wants him, so how about $750,000 for the season, and then he is back to Cluj in Romania. Except that River don’t have that much cash. At least it appears that way because as badly as they need the cancer back in their side, Rivadavia apparently won’t let him go back for less than a cool million.
Another option, somehow exercise their option with Cluj and then sell him for boatloads of cash. Either way, he is gone from Newell’s.
Ex-Old Boy and all around good guy Lucas Bernardi has verbally agreed to play this season on a free transfer and is in France arranging his early release from Monaco, where he has played for the last eight years, or so. That’s good news. Lots of experience and Newell’s pride, plus he comes for free and is going to work cheap this season because he understands the situation in which Lope$ left the club and wants to help out. So a big pay cut is upcoming for him. Are you listening Heinze?
Gaston Machin is probably heading back to Independiente since Eduardo Lope$ never made the payments. Juan Insaurralde is facing the same thing with Chacarita Juniors since Lope$ wrote a bad check for the first payment and the second is due really soon. Los funebreros want him back so they can sell him to another big club after the season he had at Newell’s. We need him to cover the back line because Spolli or Schiavi is likely to be sold so Lorente has a meeting arranged for Tuesday. I think he has scraped the cash together, but I am not totally sure.
Pablo Aguilar is in the same boat as well. And so are Walter Fretes and Ernesto Cristaldo, and Cerro Porteno wants their cash or players, but mainly their cash. There are a couple more under the same conditions, with the total debt owed on outstanding player transfers a whopping $4,000,000. Ouch.
Newell’s is going to make a preseason swing through Chile, playing matches against Everton and Audax Italiano – coached by ex-Newell’s boss Pablo Marini. A third match against La Serena is in the works, but nothing definite yet.
Newell’s is selling a lot of the stadium seats to help pay for new ones. They ought to just dump them all on Eduardo Lope$ lawn and send him a big fat bill, which I am sure he would cover with a bad check.
Oh well, I am sure I am missing something, but this is it for now.

Cristian Fabbiani did not show up today at the teams first practice.
Niether did Ferreyra (who cares). Hes probably going to be transfered to River since there going to get 15 million for Buananotte (hes killing his carrer by going to Qatar). So they will have plenty of cash Bernardi is practically a done deal! he will be in rosario rather soon here. Word on the street is mr.ariel ortega is in rosario. Either hes visiting Uncle Eduardo console him on his loss or he could be coming back. The bright spot is in reference to Machin.Thou we owe Independiente like $650,00 indpendiente does not want him, so that means he may stick around here since sensini does want him on the team.Posted from

Ortega, huh? I hadn’t heard that one. Interesting if it is true. I say buy Fabianni from Cluj and double his price to River. After the up, down, and non-existent performance by Machin last season, I’m not sure if I care if he comes back or not.

hes a fantastic player but if he doesnt want to play he would either a.) bench the rest of the season (because he doesnt want to play) or b.)go back to CFR Cluj.Lorrente said it many times. Hes staying here. there is a contract. We do owe him money that he needs to be payed. after that he needs to shut his fucking mouth. we need guys that are going who are going to sweat the jersey not talk about how they dont want to play even if they payed him. thats demoralizing.2 inferioires players where brought back. German Jaime (goalkeeper) and Federico Falcone (a forward) i remeber playing with falcone. hes a beast. im sure hes better now.

I don’t care about Fabiani, we got players and no barras to push our coach to use their players.
We have to use our resources, the inferiores and wellcome back some ex-lepras.Do you know what happened with Steinert? I want to see him again with Sperdutti, chino torres , formica.

Steinert is still around. He was hurt a lot last year, but I am thinking he might get a shot this year. I’d love to see him play a lot this year. He’s fast but raw. He really needs some quality playing time.

Seba, I take it you aren’t too long out of the inferiores? I’m hearing that Falcone is a real old fashioned 9. Any insight?
