Newell’s out of Championship Race
By: Jeremy | November 27th, 2008With last Friday’s draw with Arsenal, Newell’s is officially out of the championship hunt, seven points back with three to go. Now it is a fight to finish as high as possible in the table, increase the promedio, and get into next years Sudamericana.
And honestly, I don’t feel too bad about it. This is not the season that will be remembered for a championship anyway, but as the season that Newell’s dumped Eduardo Lopez out on his butt. Hopefully he won’t be able to rob what is left of the coffers before he hits the road, but I doubt it.
December 14 is the day. An estimated 22K people will hit the poll and I think 18,000 will vote him out. Of course, I could be wrong. Guillermo Lorente will have his hands full dealing with the mess that Lopez is going to leave. First and foremost, solvency. Then he has to deal with El Pimpi and the rest of the barra, and that won’t be any easier than getting rid of Lopez is proving to be.
Aguante Newell’s!
