Odds and ends
By: Jeremy | September 8th, 2008Ok, the starters FINALLY beat the reserves on Saturday, thanks to two goals by Fabianni.
It looks like Atlas (Mexico) is hot after el Colo Ré, and this time they may get him. With the loss of Da Silva to injury, Newell’s is looking for another striker. Andrés Silvera is in Russo’s dog house and has been offered up to la lepra on a one year loan. So they will need some cash to close the deal.
Gamboa says he won’t interfere with the move, so if the money is right, I am fairly sure that Lopez will take it. Gamboa thinks there are enough defenders to cover the loss of Ré, but I am not so sure.
Speaking of Lopez, he had an interview with La Capital yesterday and he denied any existence between the barra brava and his management team, especially in the lower divisions. He went on to say nothing about why Caruso Lombardi left so suddenly. And he didn’t seem too worried about the opposition in the election. He says they are basically non-existent. He did seem to get a little fired up when Rafael Bielsa was mentioned as a possible candidate for the opposition.
I expect some more chicanery this year, just like in past election years. To listen to him talk he was just some common ordinary guy who has done everything by the book and not some scheming, corrupt dude who is running Newell’s into the ground. He did say that the biggest problem with the lower divisions was that European clubs snapped up 6 or 7 young players without having to pay for them, but it sounded weak to me.
Something that doesn’t bode too well for the elections in December. Brelich, who was appointed by the courts to oversee the elections after the fiasco that happened in the assembly this year, stepped down, citing threats and pressure from the barra brava. But Uncle Edward said that the barra brava didn’t even exist and that the problem with the assembly was that some socios weren’t paid up to date so they couldn’t be let in, despite having been let in before, and he had such fake indignation when he was accused of not letting them pay their dues in the weeks leading up to the assembly.
So that is about all that is going on right now. We need points agains Lanus, we can’t afford to drop any more. Fabbiani says he knows Lanus’ weak spots, and since he started out with them, maybe he does.
