Oh Yeah, Godoy Cruz
By: Jeremy | October 14th, 2009I forgot all about writing about the Godoy Cruz outcome. It was last Wednesday, and marked the sixth time the two sides had met, and predictably, it ended in the sixth draw. Video after the jump.
Newell’s opened the scoring in the first half with another goal by Mauro Formica and were the stronger side throughout the game, but play had barely started in the second half when ex-Old Boy Chino Torres caught La Lepra before they settled into their positions and scored the equalizer.
Not that La Lepra didn’t have chances, but I was pleased with the overall play. They currently sit three points back of Velez and Estudiantes on 14 points, even with the SINA but ahead on goal differential.
So winning would have put them one point back in a four way tie for second place, but they are still well positioned for a second half push.
While NOB is idle today, Rolando Schiavi will be manning the back line for Argentina as they square off with Uruguay for the last direct qualifier spot.
And if you are on Facebook, David over at a Leper in a Strange Land has started a Facebook group in English (although you don’t really have to speak English to join.
