Probable line up for Saturday - No Fabbiani
By: Jeremy | August 21st, 2008Ok, Fabbiani is out due to injury. Fretes still is waiting on his transfer paperwork to arrive from Cerro Porteno (something about Newell’s still owing Cerro some cash). Quiroga is back from his suspension, so he’ll probably replace Aguilar. Spolli is also recovered from injury and will reclaim his starting spot from Insaurralde - who filled in admirably.
Gamboa is taking 21 players to Jujuy, including Fretes, Cristaldo, and Escalada, just in case dear old uncle Edward actually pays up and their transfers come through.
So we are looking at Caffa in goal: Re and Quiroga on the flanks with Schiavi and Spolli playing sweeper; Machin at right mid, Vangioni at left mid, and Bernardello in the center -more of a defensive mid. The other center mid will be Fretes, if his transfer arrives, and Perez if not. Up top it gets more complicated. Without Fabbiani, the options are Da Silva, Ferreyra, Armani, and Diego Torres. Since those are the four strikers on going on the plane to Jujuy, then I put two and two together and deduced that two of those four must start. I know, I’ve got a mind like a plastic trap.
Da Silva and Ferreyra failed horrifically last time. It failed again this week in practice. My money is on Da Silva and Armani, although don’t count out Torres. Escalada looked mighty good in practice and put one in for the reserves against the first team yesterday, but he’s not going to be on the plane since there probably isn’t much chance of his transfer arriving. I think Gamboa feels like only Da Silva has a lot of first team experience so he has to go this week. Armani has been impressing in practice and he had a good year with Tiro. This is potentially one of the weakest teams we will be facing this season, so blood him now. I’d be happier with Armani and Torres or even Ferreyra, but I doubt we’ll see that.
I’ll get a preview up sometime tonight or tomorrow. This whole working thing really gets in the way of blogging.
