Probably should have posted this before
By: Jeremy | August 15th, 2008Here are the fixtures for this season, one game late. Due to Boca running off to Spain to play Barcelona, la lepra do not play this week. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd. And I didn’t include the first game of the season, since it has already been played. (Ok, I forgot to add it when I was creating my super snazzy graphic) Also keep in mind that home team is listed first and in Argentina, the dates of the rounds are based on Sunday’s date, but the team may well play one or two days before that. The AFA (Argentine Football Association) usually announces times and days a week or so before each round.

So looking at the schedule, a few things stand out. One is the midweek Boca match at home. It will come fresh on the heels of an away trip to Colon. Hopefully we get a Friday night game against Colon. Here is my prediction - undefeated heading into the Boca encounter. We start off with both Gimnasia’s (currently 20 and 19 in the relegation standings) and Colon is 17. I think 9 points are possible, and anything less will feel to me like leaving points on the table.
I was a bit upset when I say the postponement, because I knew that would mean a midweek tie, but with everything that happened, having the second week off turned out to be a blessing.
The following three games against Lanus, Huracan, and Independiente occur in the span of 8 days or so. That will be a tough stretch due to the time frame.
The Clasico is on Nov 2, but unfortunately we get River midweek before it, so another three game stretch in a week or so starting with Estudiantes. This will be the toughest part of the season with three games in quick succession against big teams. Well, Central isn’t a ‘big’ team, but the clasico against our biggest rivals is always a tough game.
We close out the year against newcomers San Martin de Tucuman (and ex-Nob keeper Marcos Gutierrez) and Racing. I’m counting on six points out of those two games.
