Super-Duper Mega Post

Ok, so I got a little slack this week and never put up anything about the big win at the Nuevo Gasometro against San Lorenzo. So here’s the video from the match.

Tonight’s match against Arsenal wasn’t quite such a joyous occasion. Newell’s had chances, especially in the second half, but didn’t capitalize on them. To be honest, they looked kind of flat and did not keep possession very well. Luckily Arsenal had a bit of the same problem.

Still in all, the draw ends their hopes of a Sudamericana slot, unless Argentina gets a sixth and seventh spot, since they are in sixth place, and River Plate are automatically invited are behind them. Which brings up a question (I know the answer, but still) why are Boca and River automatically invited? They should have to earn it each time, just like everyone else.

In other news, and I may have covered this already, but NOB has initiated judicial action against Lope$ and his crew in an attempt to recover some of his ill-gotten gains. Or at least send him to prison, which is probably all they can hope for.

And this week the club’s directors sought bankruptcy-like protection from the government and received it. I’ll get a post up outlining what it means to the club and how it works later. Right now the socios still have to approve the deal, but I think it will happen without too much of a fight. The old barra crowd may try and stop it, but they are fairly outnumbered.
