Tax Evasion and Ansaldi, or What Tio Edward Did
By: Jeremy | December 29th, 2008Looks like Eduardo just couldn’t help himself. In the beginning of 08, Newell’s sold Cristian Ansaldi to Rubin Kazan in Russia for eight million dollars. Remember Ansaldi? He didn’t play much until Caruso Lombardi came along and then he was a superstar. So Lope$ got a ton of money for him.
The only thing is, he listed the sale price as two, not eight, million dollars, ostensibly to avoid taxes. Well, he couldn’t send along a transfer to Russia that didn’t agree with what Kazan had paid, so Ansaldi spent a few weeks ineligible to play. It wasn’t until the Russians threatened to send him home and get their money (which had already been embezzled in the large part) back.
So in steps Don (mafia sense, not Spanish sense) Grondona (and Lope$ buddy) at the AFA and he (a FIFA vice president) uses his connections to get some strings pulled over in Mother Russia and presto chango look who is now cleared to play without transfer paperwork.
So the tax authorities in Argentina are looking into possible tax fraud and maybe even money laundering. I’m not sure how it would be money laundering, but I wouldn’t put it past dear old departed Uncle Edward – departed not as in dead but as in boot print in his ass out the door departed.

Yo J, what’s the story with the NOB official website? It hasn’t been up for a week or so, offseason maintenance?

Well, since Lope$ left and stole all the computers, I’m guessing he took it down and no one knows how to get it back up. Since the club is broke and the stadium falling apart, I’m guessing it will be a while before the new admin gets around to it.
The official email for the club as listed on the AFA site, updated with the new president, is newellsoldboys@hotmail.com. That bastard of an ex president probably had the domain registered in his own name.
