The cup chase

By: Jeremy | April 15th, 2008

Well, Newell’s sit seventh in the latest cup standings. With seven spots for the Sudamericana up for grabs, that should be good news, but since one of those spots goes to Arsenal as defending champs, la lepra are one spot out of luck. The good news is that Lanus is one spot above us, level on points but with a better goal differential, and having a not great season by any means. After this weeks tie with Boca, the schedule gets decidedly easier (on paper) compared to the first half, so things aren’t looking too bad.

If we can fend off the challengers, there are five teams within 4 points of us, then we should be in the money. But I don’t want the players to forget what this season is really about, getting way out of the drop zone. Still, playing the Sudamericana would be nice.

I agree, our first Goal is end out of Pormocion zone, to get a place in the sudamericana surely would be very nice. You know about Newell’s sopporters for me we are the best in whole world.

If we can get points from Boca this week, I think we are set to escape the drop and get into the Copa. Newell’s is in a run of great form right now and every week someone different is stepping up. For me, even a draw is a victory, since we are at their place.
