Uncle Edward is up to his old tricks again.

By: Jeremy | August 21st, 2008

Seems like Lopez has pissed off Newell’s fans to the point that they filed a grievance with a judge because Lopez won’t open the books to the fans - who are technically the owners of the club. So a judge sent out an official member of the Roario judiciary to take a look at the books, and Lopez said no, that he’d produce them in 72 hours. That was August 6. Now it is two weeks later, and you guessed it, nothing.

I so can’t wait until he is gone. The socios don’t even know what bank Newell’s uses. Or where the money is or even the club’s balance sheet. But I have a bad feeling that he will manipulate his way out of the election, or buy it, or outright cheat, in that order. There haven’t been elections in the 14 years since he was elected president, despite club rules calling for elections every 4 years.

Stay tuned, I’ll try and post more as it becomes available, but Lopez is one of the most powerful men in Rosario, so who knows if he’ll be able to pull some strings like he has in the past and get out of showing the books.
