Was selling Salcedo right?
By: Jeremy | October 4th, 2008Last season, 19 games and 9 goals. Basically a goal every other game, or every .472 games. Newells basically got $500,000 for every goal scored.
This season, 7 games and 1 goal. A goal every 7th game, or every .143 games.
So far it looks like a winner for Newell’s.

I’m not sure Lopez sold him, I thought it was a lending.

I think he was actually bought by three business men and then loaned to River.

I must agree, Salcedo was good last year for scoring goals, but I’m much happier with the style of play Newell’s is playing this season.
Nice to see that I’m not the only one living in the US who’s a Newell’s fan. Whenever I run across someone who knows anything about the game outside of MLS and I mention I’m a fan of Argentine futbol they always ask “Boca or River?” as if they are the only two Argentine teams worth following!

Are you sure you don’t want him back?

David, I get the same question time after time. Occasionally they throw in River. Once I even got Chivas.
The talent is better and deeper than last season, and possibly most important, the locker room isn’t at war with the coach this year. They are playing much better than last season, and the table shows it.

Nolan, I’m pretty happy with him at el Monumental. His goal scoring in previous seasons wasn’t much and I wasn’t sure if he was going to continue like last season or not. One thing I am realizing now is that he was our default scorer. The other strikers were terrible, as evidenced by the bad start offensively this year. Maybe being on a club with other options keeps his production down. Or maybe he needed a few games to gel. He did get brought in by River pretty late. Either way, I still like the guy. What he did to Central will forever make him a leper.
